Cyclone ‘Debbie’ Australia 2017

Whilst this wasn’t recognised as an ‘official’ deployment, we did deploy into this event with two members to help coordinate a team of 32 youth workers.

The statistics are as follows:

• Deployment length – 8 days
• Team number – 32
• Hours performed – 1,750 hrs = 218.75 hrs per day
• Houses cleared – 33
• Factories cleared – 5
• Public domains cleared (Airlie Beach’s main beach) – 1

I am sooo proud of the entire Y team from Byron Bay and Whitsunday – it was a sincere pleasure to coordinate them!

I’m especially grateful for the 2IC support from my colleague Bryan Friesen who daily organised everyone into specific teams and dispatched them to strategic places! VERY well done mate!!

I speak on behalf of Bryan who I think would agree that the whole deployment would not have been so successful without the wonderful assistance of Jeremy and Ellaya Humphries and family, who went WAY beyond all measures in terms of hospitality, organisation and leadership – to say nothing of inconvenience! BULK thanks to you both and your excellent family!!

We all worked VERY hard every day and each one returned ‘home’ feeling like it was like a three week deployment – probably because of the extreme humidity, the rain and the acute sweating – to say nothing of the hyper vigilance due to the ever present snakes, spiders and green ants.

This truly has been a deployment that will go in to the annuls!!. I sincerely trust that all feel comforted from the success of your prayers!
